Care and Maintenance Advice for Wooden Doors
This post offers care and maintenance advice for wooden doors to help keep your doors well presented and preserve their life expectancy.
Depending on exposure your door may need re-coating, we would recommend a light sand down with a cork sanding block using fine 220 grit sand paper.
All you need to do is dull the original paint surface this will create a "key" for the new paint finish to adhere to. Take care not to rub though the paint finish.
Any beading or moulding will need to be sanded by hand taking care not to rub through the paint finish on the corners. Remove any dust with a soft brush and hoover. Wipe the door down with a soft cloth to remove any finer dust particles.
Mix the paint thoroughly with a stick. We would recommend using 2 soft brushes to apply the paint, 1 will be used to load the paint on to and apply it to the door the 2nd brush will be used dry, to level the applied paint up with.
Always start in the centre of the door with the panels then moving outwards. Pay close attention to the paint and use the dry 2nd brush to keep leveling the paint to prevent any runs.
